Brand and Order Background

Rare Beauty was founded by Selena Gomez in 2020, with a design tone of "minimalist fashion packaging with a light luxury feel"; its packaging has been described as "understated and warm." In 2024, the brand was named Beauty Packaging's "Beauty Company of the Year – Packaging Excellence." Joyce Kim, its Chief product Officer, said: "Packaging design innovation has been rooted in our brand DNA from day one."

In the 2025 Christmas season, Rare Beauty commissioned us to complete a special custom packaging gift box order, including two box types: lid-and-base boxes and double-door boxes, for the online display and delivery of limited-edition holiday sets. The client asked the packaging to continue the brand's minimalist tone while incorporating premium Chinese-style elements, conveying a sense of holiday ritual through a distinctive Eastern aesthetic language.

Structure and Materials: The Combinatorial Logic of Lid-and-Base and Double-Door Boxes

To meet the display needs of different product lines, we provided differentiated structural solutions.

The lid-and-base box is used for core set packaging. Its "upper and lower lid" structure is grand in appearance and smooth to open and close. The outer lid is covered with a finely printed surface, while the inner box uses a different material to create visual contrast, conveying professionalism and quality the moment it is opened. The inner tray is a custom-formed velvet tray, ensuring zero displacement of glass containers such as liquid foundation and lip glaze during transportation.

The double-door box is used for multi-item combination sets. The double-opening structure has a natural "sense of ritual" in online display—the moment consumers open both lids with their hands, the products unfold like a scroll, highly consistent with the brand's advocacy of self-care rituals. The box body uses grey board wrapped in tactile paper, offering high rigidity and a delicate feel, balancing the visual impact of online display with the structural strength needed for logistics.

Craft Implementation: Precise Coordination of UV and Silver Foil Stamping

For surface treatment, we used two core processes—spot UV and silver foil stamping—as the framework, combined with embossing and textured debossing, to build a layered tactile experience.

Silver foil stamping is used for the brand logo and core decorative lines on the box surface, giving a metallic luster and a slight raised feel when touched. For UV, we used a combination of "overall matte lamination + localized reverse UV" (spot UV): most of the box surface presents a soft matte texture, while key visual elements such as the brand logo and snowflake patterns are highlighted with spot UV, creating a delicate contrast between light and shade. Notably, the process area is strictly controlled within a reasonable proportion of the box surface—silver foil covers only the logo and border lines, while UV focuses on the main visual pattern, following the principle of "less but finer," avoiding excessive decoration that would weaken the refinement.

Chinese-style elements are integrated through a strategy of "subtle expression": the base pattern on the box surface uses embossing to press abstract lines of landscape and window lattice, without color, conveying Eastern meaning only through light, shadow, and touch; auspicious cloud motifs outlined in silver foil are dotted at the four corners with extremely fine lines, appearing faintly under light. This approach is highly consistent with the 2026 packaging trend of "minimalist light luxury merged with Eastern aesthetics"—replacing full-bleed decoration with a few refined surface treatments, balancing shelf recognition and cultural expression.

Eco-Friendly Materials and Quality Assurance

The packaging materials use FSC-certified grey board and recyclable specialty paper, and the silver foil stamping process uses environmentally friendly water-based foil. The entire package can enter the regular paper recycling stream. This responds to Rare Beauty's brand commitment to "recyclable materials" clearly stated in its PR gift boxes, and also aligns with the global beauty packaging industry's shift toward recyclable, mono-material solutions. The eco-friendly cosmetics packaging market is projected to reach US$5.78 billion by 2026, with a CAGR of 9.1%; green recyclability has become a standard configuration for premium brand packaging.

Customization Service and Delivery

For this project, a dedicated specialist provided one-on-one support from sampling to mass production. During the sampling stage, three process combination options were provided for the client to compare physical effects. After confirmation, the confirmed sample was delivered within 7 working days. During mass production, we strictly controlled registration accuracy and silver foil adhesion, ensuring that every gift box stably reproduced the sample effect in bulk production.

Rare Beauty has never positioned packaging merely as a "container," but as "Feel-Good Packaging with a Purpose." This Christmas gift box solution takes exactly that as its starting point: using the structural tension of lid-and-base boxes and double-door boxes to carry the unboxing ritual, using the restrained luster of UV and silver foil to convey quality, and using recyclable materials to practice the brand's dual care for people and the environment. The value of a one-stop cosmetics packaging solution lies precisely in making every gift carry a premium ambiance while also standing up to layer-by-layer scrutiny from online display to the moment of unboxing.
