In the early autumn of 2019, we received an inquiry from Bvlgari’s procurement team. The email was brief, but every word carried the hallmark precision of an Italian luxury house: “We need a bespoke Christmas gift box for the 2020 holiday season, designed for repeated use, with materials that meet our global sustainability standards.”
At the time, we had been the premium paper packaging industry for years, yet we still felt a deep sense of reverence when facing Bvlgari – a Roman jewellery maison with over 140 years of heritage. For Bvlgari, packaging is never merely a “wrapper”; it is an extension of the brand’s aesthetic philosophy. Its iconic boxes, inspired by the grandeur and splendour of the Eternal City, embody the very essence of refined elegance.

First Conversations: From “Impossible” to “Let’s Try”
During our initial discussions, Bvlgari’s team presented what seemed like conflicting requirements: the gift boxes had to be made from eco‑friendly materials – all paper sourced from responsibly managed forests – while being sturdy enough for multiple cycles of reuse. Moreover, as a dedicated Christmas collection, the design had to seamlessly integrate Bvlgari’s signature motifs with festive spirit.
And, crucially, the initial order volume was modest.
“Many suppliers turned us down when we said small quantities and our quality standards,” the packaging procurement lead admitted during a video conference.
We, however, did not hesitate. As a packaging provider whose core philosophy is “accepting small-batch customisation and offering free samples,” we knew that trust in the luxury sector is never won by order size, but by the flawless delivery of every single detail.

Millimetre‑Level Dialogue During the Refinement Phase
The real challenge began with sampling.
Bvlgari’s classic gift boxes feature the maison’s signature colours, accented with iconic motifs. Our design team spent countless hours studying Bvlgari’s visual language – from the distinctive “Pantheon grid” inspired by the arches of Rome’s Pantheon to the celebrated eight‑pointed star. Every hot‑stamping nuance, every embossing depth, had to be precise to the micron.
First sample round – feedback: “The gold saturation is insufficient; the colour deviation from brand standard exceeds tolerance.”
Second round – feedback: “The lid closure resistance is inadequate, and the structure shows slight loosening after multiple openings.”
Third, fourth rounds… We set up a dedicated Bvlgari task force, monitoring every step from material sourcing to production. To achieve the “multiple reuse” sturdiness, we opted for high‑grammage eco‑friendly paperboard combined with precision die‑cutting, ensuring both rigidity and a premium tactile feel.
Sustainability: A Commitment, Not a Slogan
Bvlgari’s dedication to environmental responsibility left a deep impression on us. The brand has pledged to drastically reduce plastic usage across its entire product lifecycle; its high‑end jewellery and watch collections have already adopted sustainable packaging that cuts plastic by 96% – saving over 160,000 kg of plastic annually.
Our eco‑material solutions aligned perfectly with this vision. All our papers are FSC‑certified, sourced from well‑managed forests, and our packaging contains no harmful chemicals, using wood fibres, pure silk, and natural latex from rubber trees. When we submitted our complete FSC chain‑of‑custody certification, ISO 14001 environmental management credentials, and full material traceability reports, the Bvlgari team’s verdict was: “Exceeds expectations.”

The Christmas Gift Box: From Blueprint to Reality
After nearly four months of iterative refinement, the first Bvlgari Christmas exclusive gift box was finally finalised.
The exterior features the brand’s classic gold and Bvlgari green, with hot‑stamped motifs of the eight‑pointed star and the Serpenti – the star symbolising fortune and protection, the Serpenti representing wisdom, transformation, and renewal. Inside, the structure is meticulously engineered to accommodate various jewellery and accessory sizes. Made from high‑strength eco‑friendly paperboard, the box has been tested to withstand over 200 openings and closings without deformation – truly achieving the goal of “multiple cycles of reuse.”
The first batch was delivered on schedule. When Bvlgari’s Global Packaging Director held the finished product in her hands, opening and closing it repeatedly, she simply said: “This is exactly what we wanted.”
From Supplier to Partner
Since then, our collaboration has deepened steadily. From Christmas boxes to the Bvlgari Eternal collection packaging, from jewellery cases to fragrance gift boxes, we have gradually become a key packaging partner for Bvlgari in Greater China.
Looking back, the most valuable outcome is not the growth in order volume, but the mutual understanding and trust we have built. Bvlgari taught us what “millimetre‑grade quality” truly means; and we, in turn, demonstrated – through our willingness to handle small‑batch customisation and free sampling, and our expertise in eco‑friendly, durable materials – that a Chinese packaging supplier can engage in equal‑footed dialogue with a world‑class luxury maison.
Today, every Christmas season, when BVLGARI‑branded boxes travel from our production lines to boutiques around the globe, we still remember that first imperfect gold shade. It was precisely those “not quite right” iterations that honed the outstanding work we now take pride in – together.
Craftsmanship honours craftsmanship; details make timeless masterpieces. That is what Bvlgari taught us – and what we will always uphold.
