In the luxury packaging industry, a custom gift box is not merely an outer layer for a product; it is an extension of brand storytelling. In the run-up to Christmas 2025, French luxury brand Dior placed a special custom order with our factory—to create a Chinese-style gold card box gift box set for its Christmas limited-edition perfume collection. The goal was to blend Eastern aesthetics with French luxury and give holiday gifting a unique cultural texture.

Project Background: When French Luxury Meets Eastern Gold

Dior has continued to explore emotional connections with the Chinese market. Its previous “L’OR DE DIOR” exhibition at the Guardian Art Center in Beijing used gold as the central inspiration, connecting the brand with Chinese consumers through a deeper dialogue. For the 2025 Christmas season, Dior hoped to continue this golden narrative in perfume gift box packaging while incorporating Chinese-style elements, creating a high-end gift box that combined holiday ritual with cultural recognition.

The client’s requirements were clear: gold square boxes in complete sets, hot stamping on the surface, a fashionable and high-end color finish, a box structure suitable for multiple perfume bottle sizes, precise insert positioning, eco-friendly and recyclable materials that met the brand’s sustainability standards, and delivery within four weeks before the Christmas sales peak.

Design Highlights: Deconstructing the Craft of the Chinese-Style Gold Card Box

Material selection: The main body of the gift box used 350g extra-thick greyboard laminated with specialty tactile paper. The edges were crisp and resistant to collapsing, while the surface offered a fine matte grain when touched. The moisture content of the greyboard was strictly controlled at 8% ± 1% to prevent dry shrinkage, corner cracking, and exposed white edges. The outer layer used a matte gold tone as the main color, with a special coating that created a diffuse reflection similar to fabric rather than cheap mirror-like glare. This made the overall color appear warmer and more restrained under warm light.

Hot stamping: The box surface and lid used high-precision hot foil stamping transfer technology to precisely press the brand logo and Chinese-style patterns onto the specialty paper. Hot stamping works through the combined effect of temperature, pressure, and time, giving the pattern a mirror-like gloss and a subtle embossed feel. To echo the Chinese-style theme, the design team stamped abstract lines inspired by traditional auspicious cloud motifs onto the box surface, paired with the Dior logo. The hot stamping position, font curvature, and background depth were confirmed through multiple rounds of proofs to ensure the finished product reflected a delicate metallic luster under light.

Structural design: The gift box adopted a magnetic flip-top structure. The insert used a flocked EVA tray, and the slot tolerance was controlled within ±0.15mm to ensure the perfume bottle remained stable during transportation and display. The lid offered a magnetic damping feel when opened and closed, enhancing the unboxing ritual.

One-Stop Customization Service: Efficient Coordination from Proofing to Mass Production

This project fully demonstrated the factory’s comprehensive service capabilities in high-end gift box customization. After receiving the request, the factory completed the first batch of design drafts and a 3D structural preview within 48 hours, showing the client hot stamping simulations and material swatch comparisons through an online system. Free samples were then arranged, and physical samples were sent to the client to confirm hot stamping precision, box surface feel, and insert fit.

The client requested adjustments to the thickness ratio of the hot-stamped pattern in the first sample. The factory completed a second sample within 24 hours and shipped it again. From design confirmation to first bulk delivery, the entire process took only 18 working days, successfully meeting the stocking deadline before the Christmas peak season.

In order management, the factory assigned a dedicated contact person for the Dior project, synchronizing material confirmation, process parameters, and production progress in real time so the client could track order status at any time. This one-to-one professional service model effectively reduced communication costs and ensured color consistency across batches in the hot stamping process.

Environmental Protection and Quality: Recyclable Materials Build Brand Trust

Dior placed strict requirements on the environmental attributes of the packaging. This batch of gift boxes was made entirely from FSC-certified paper. Both the greyboard and outer box were 100% recyclable. The flocked EVA tray used a halogen-free eco-friendly formula, complying with the latest recyclability requirements of the EU PPWR packaging regulation. Before mass production, the factory provided FSC certification documents and material environmental test reports, ensuring full traceability from raw materials to finished products for every gift box.

Environmental claims must be backed by certification. The factory also marked the FSC certification number in the packaging description, avoiding the risk of greenwashing. This compliance awareness also provided protection for the client’s sales in the EU market.
