On the eve of the 2025 Christmas season, Hermès was preparing a holiday limited-edition perfume gift box project for the Asia-Pacific market. The brand hoped to deeply integrate its French luxury DNA with traditional Chinese cultural elements, creating limited-edition packaging that would offer both a festive atmosphere and collectible value. This request was consistent with Hermès’ ongoing strategy of exploring the Chinese market—the brand had previously launched holiday gift boxes incorporating origami and lantern elements to attract local and overseas consumers through traditional Chinese culture.
After multiple rounds of supplier screening, we were selected to handle the custom production of this Chinese-style gold card box collection, relying on our deep experience in high-end cosmetics gift box printing customization. The core project requirements included: custom individual square perfume boxes that could be paired as a set, hot foil stamping, suitability for both online display and offline boutique scenarios, and completion of the entire process from proofing to delivery within a limited timeframe.

The collection uses “gold” as the primary tone, selecting deep gold and champagne gold from the Pantone color system for two-color overprinting, creating rich layered gloss on a dark base card. The main pattern on the box surface extracts its linear language from the traditional Chinese “interlocking lotus scroll” motif, using hot foil stamping to outline continuous, flowing vine patterns that wrap around the box surface, symbolizing auspicious continuity. This design retains the DNA of Hermès’ iconic orange gift boxes—most of the brand’s products are packaged with orange boxes and Hermès ribbons—while giving it a uniquely luxurious holiday limited-edition character through gold foil stamping.
Each perfume square box uses a two-piece rigid box structure with top and bottom lids, paired internally with die-cut cardboard and a flocked insert that precisely fits the perfume bottle’s outline. The individual square boxes can be freely combined into sets, adapting to single-bottle, two-bottle, and four-bottle specifications. A hidden magnetic closure is embedded in the lid, offering a steady and crisp open-and-close feel and elevating the opening process into a sense of ritual.

For surface decoration, the project combined several high-end printing techniques:
For hot foil stamping, gold and rose gold two-color foiling was used, while the brand logo was produced with high-precision embossed foil stamping for a full, three-dimensional tactile effect. Registration between the foiled areas and the background pattern was controlled within a tolerance of 0.1 mm, ensuring sharp, clean pattern edges.
For surface finishing, soft-touch lamination was applied, giving the box surface a velvety, delicate feel while improving moisture resistance and wear resistance, suitable for both e-commerce shipping and offline gift channels. The interior insert uses matte black specialty paper, creating a strong contrast with the gold exterior and enhancing the visual impact during unboxing.
For eco-friendly materials, the entire line uses FSC-certified paper and soy ink printing, with recyclable molded pulp for the insert, responding to the brand’s sustainable development strategy while maintaining a luxurious feel.

Small-batch customization and free proofing: In the early stage of the project, we provided the Hermès team with three rounds of free proofing services, covering structural white samples, digital color proofs, and final hot-stamped samples, ensuring the design effect was fully verified before mass production. Even for small trial orders, the complete proofing confirmation process is included.
Dedicated one-on-one professional coordination: A senior project manager follows up throughout the entire process, from structural design optimization, material selection, and pre-press file processing to production assembly and quality inspection, achieving end-to-end dedicated service.
Quality assurance: Before leaving the factory, finished products pass through a 100% inspection station for piece-by-piece checking. Key indicators such as foil adhesion, box squareness, and magnetic closure strength all meet the brand’s acceptance standards. Sufficient monthly capacity ensures timely delivery during the holiday peak season.

This order case reflects three major trends in high-end perfume gift box packaging printing customization: first, cultural integration—international luxury brands increasingly value the integration of local cultural elements, and Chinese-style packaging design is moving from “piling up symbols” to “expressing artistic conception”; second, sustainable luxury—recyclable materials and eco-friendly processes no longer stand in opposition to high-end texture, but have become part of brand value; third, small-batch flexible customization—brands increasingly require flexibility in minimum order quantities and delivery cycles for scenarios such as holiday limited editions and regional limited editions.
For the packaging printing industry, suppliers that can simultaneously meet high-end craftsmanship, environmental compliance, and rapid proofing will occupy a more favorable position in the luxury brand supply chain.
