Estée Lauder Christmas Custom High-End Gift Box — Black Lid-and-Base Box / Double-Door Box Order Case Study

Project Background

In the run-up to the 2025 Christmas season, Estée Lauder launched its annual Christmas custom packaging project, requiring a batch of high-end Chinese-style luxury perfume gift boxes for festive limited-edition displays and VIP client gifts in key stores worldwide. The brand’s core requirements were clear: a black lid-and-base box paired with a double-door box structure, hot silver foil stamping for the brand logo and Eastern motifs, and a matching set of independent jewelry square boxes to form a complete gift set system. As a packaging printing provider with years of experience in high-end gift box customization, we were honored to undertake this project.

Client Requirements and Design Communication

During early discussions, the Estée Lauder team raised several key requirements. First, the gift box structure needed to convey both the stability of a lid-and-base box and the ritual of a double-door box—the outer box would use a black lid-and-base structure, while the inner box would open like double doors, unfolding like a scroll when the consumer opens it. Second, the hot foil stamping precision had to be extremely high: the brand logo needed to present a mirror-silver effect on matte black specialty paper, with sharp edges and no blurring. Third, an additional set of independent jewelry square boxes had to be customized to match the main gift box, used to hold the perfume bottle and accompanying jewelry.

In response to these needs, we arranged dedicated one-to-one service coordination, confirming structure design and material selection step by step. Considering the flexibility of low-volume customization, the team completed the first round of structural sampling within 48 hours and provided free physical samples for the brand’s review and confirmation.

Materials and Craftsmanship

For the outer box material, high-bulk recycled greyboard was selected as the skeleton, with matte black specialty paper mounted on the surface. This combination maintains the box’s rigidity while giving the surface a fine tactile texture, aligning with the current high-end packaging trend in which consumers prioritize tactile experience over visual impact. The outer box used FSC-certified silver transfer paper as partial decoration, combined with spot semi-matte UV and embossing, allowing Estée Lauder’s signature golden emblem to display a relief-like three-dimensional layering on the black background.

Hot silver foil stamping was the core highlight of this project. In the logo area, we used high-precision hot foil stamping; under heat and pressure, the hot stamping foil was precisely transferred onto the paper surface, forming a bright yet restrained metallic luster. After hot foil stamping, spot UV was applied to further enhance the logo’s layering and abrasion resistance. The inner box’s double-door structure used concealed magnetic snap closures, opening and closing smoothly without exposed hardware, maintaining a clean exterior.

The independent jewelry square boxes used the same series of matte black specialty paper, with hot silver foil patterns on the box surface echoing the main gift box. The inner tray was formed by die-cut corrugated paper instead of traditional EVA foam, balancing eco-friendly recyclability with structural stability.

production and Quality Control

The production process strictly followed the confirmed sampling standards, completing printing, surface treatment, hot foil stamping, embossing, die-cutting, mounting and forming, and inner tray assembly in sequence. During quality inspection, each gift box was checked item by item for hot foil stamping position accuracy, double-door opening and closing smoothness, and inner tray fixation. The final delivered gift boxes had a full overall texture and perfect detail handling, with the contrast of black and silver presenting a calm and premium visual effect.
