For the 2025 Christmas season, Chanel planned to launch a limited-edition perfume gift box collection for mainland China and the Asia-Pacific market. Unlike its regular European and American product lines, this collection needed to incorporate traditional Chinese cultural elements, with “Oriental Gilded Gold” as the visual core, and was intended for targeted gifting through high-end department store channels and VIP customers. The project required complete gift box sets, covering three specifications: single-bottle perfume card boxes, two-bottle gift boxes, and card sleeves, presenting the ultimate texture of custom high-end packaging gift boxes.
At the time, the core challenges were: limited minimum order quantity, tight delivery schedule, and extremely strict brand standards for hot foil stamping and surface touch. This is a typical problem many brands encounter when looking for a high-end gift box customization factory—the non-standard nature of the packaging printing industry means every project must build its craft solution from scratch.

Starting from Chanel’s classic black-and-white aesthetic, the design team made a restrained yet refined translation of Chinese-style elements: the main visual on the box surface uses a fret pattern and intertwining lotus motif, presented through matte antique gold hot foil stamping with embossed relief. The fret pattern symbolizes “continuity,” while the intertwining lotus represents “elegance and purity.” The two are symmetrically arranged within Chanel’s signature crisp geometric framework, retaining Eastern charm without losing French restraint.
The hot foil stamping process was the key difficulty. To ensure the gold lines were clearly layered and not blurred, a one-piece forming solution of “first embossing the texture, then three-dimensional hot foil stamping” was adopted. The stamping temperature was strictly controlled between 145°C and 155°C, with balanced pressure, ensuring that hair-thin fret lines had no missing gold or broken lines. Matte antique gold was chosen rather than bright gold, creating a steady contrast with the dark spot-color base of the box body and avoiding a flashy feel.

The box body’s face paper used high-gsm matte tactile specialty paper mounted on 2.5mm greyboard, a standard structure for high-end gift boxes. The use of soft-touch lamination was key—this BOPP film with fine downy particles produces a velvet-like damping feel after lamination, while also improving surface scratch and stain resistance. On the matte tactile base, Chanel further enhanced the sense of layering through Pantone spot-color ink mixing and spot UV, giving the logo clear recognition when brushed by a fingertip.
The base color used spot-color solid printing rather than CMYK four-color overprinting, solving the industry-wide problem of large-ink dark colors easily becoming mottled or showing white. Registration error was controlled at ≤0.15mm, with a 3mm bleed margin on all four sides, so the gold-edge pattern extended to the mounted box edge without revealing a white border.
The order quantity was limited, and the minimum order quantity of 3,000 to 5,000 units common among traditional factories could not match. The project adopted a small-batch customization solution, with one-on-one dedicated coordination from design proofing to mass production. The first round of proofing was completed within 48 hours, and mass production began 7 days after customer confirmation. All materials used eco-friendly recyclable paper and inks, meeting the brand’s ESG audit requirements, and raw materials held FSC certification.

The three final gift boxes arrived at counters in Shanghai, Beijing, and Hong Kong as scheduled before the Christmas season. In unboxing feedback, VIP customers particularly praised the three-dimensional feel of the fret-pattern hot foil stamping on the box surface, and the skin-friendly texture of the soft-touch film was considered “beyond expectations for paper packaging.” The project subsequently received repeat orders from the brand for continued promotion during the 2026 Spring Festival season.
This case confirms a trend: in the field of high-end gift box customization, what truly sets companies apart is not the stacking of materials, but precise control of craft details and the responsiveness of a flexible supply chain. From free samples to small-batch mass production, one-stop service is becoming a core consideration for brands when choosing a packaging partner.
